Lizards and Castles

It's another hot day here in St Albans (31 degrees) and I'm still dreaming about the great trip we had last week. The breakdown of where we stayed is:

Friday – Sidmouth, Devon
Saturday - Liskeard, Cornwall
Sunday - Mevagissey, Cornwall
Monday - Lizard, Cornwall
Tuesday & Wednesday - St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly
Thursday - St Agnes, Isles of Scilly
Friday - St Ives
Saturday - Tintagel

We stayed at some great farmhouse bed and breakfast and tried to stay as close to the coast as we could most nights. Lots of mornings waking up to the sound of gulls and the waves.

The little fishing villages were amazing. Mousehole, Polperro, Mevagissey, Looe and Fowey were all beautiful, as was Dartmouth where we found a great antique store.

There was lots of icecream to be eaten and it was hot every day, so we tried to take it easy and spend some time on the beach when we could.

The Lizard Peninsula was beautiful and the beach we went to there was my favourite. When the tide was out, there were lots of caves and archways through to other wee beaches. Didn’t see any sharks, and only saw a few smelly jellyfish.

A lot of the villages had a real ‘east coast of Canada’ feel to them. We saw some Canadian flags flying in some of the villages and were told that it’s because of the close relationship between the British and Canadian fishermen.

So, now I’m already planning a second trip to Cornwall and Devon. This time it will be a road trip in the mini with my maw. We’ll have to pack light, and probably won’t be able to fit 26 stained glass windows into the trunk like we did on this trip, but I think it’ll be great fun. How does June 2007 sound Alice? Woo woo!
