Our fantastic bed&breakfast
High on a hill in Avebury
Rob and a big stone in AveburyWe had a really nice weekend in Bath and surrounding areas.
We hit the road on Saturday morning and drove straight to Bath. Traffic was bad, and we soon found out that Sunday was the Bath Half Marathon. Parking and driving around was a nightmare, but we soon found a parking spot and wandered Bath for most of the day. It's such a pretty city, and there is lots to see and do there.
When we got sick of the crowds, we headed to our B&B just outside of Bath. It was a big beautiful manor house on a huge farm. The farm itself is owned by Price Charles, and the current tenants rent it from him. So Prince Chuck is their landlord, and they had pictures of him visiting the farm, which was cool. Our bedroom was huge, and it was really nice to be in the countryside and listening to the cows moooooo!
On Sunday we drove to Wells, which is the smallest city in England. It was very cute, with a lovely Abbey church and Bishop's Palace, and lots of nice old buildings. Then we went to Shepton Mallet for the biggest Antique Fair ever - more than 600 stalls! It was crazy.
After that, we decided to get a bit more cultured and went to Avebury to explore an ancient stone circle that is bigger (and cooler!) than Stonehenge.
After all that excitement, it was time to go home!! It was a really nice weekend, and was very hard to come back and go to work - I could have done another 2 weeks of just touring around and seeing the many sights we haven't seen yet.
