Proud potter

After 2.5 years of taking a ceramics class, I finally made 2 bowls that I'm VERY proud of!

We did a Raku firing last night, which is when you fire the pots in an outdoor kiln, and then after they are red hot you put them in barrels of sawdust, that catch on fire. They sit in there for a while, then the final step is to plunge the pots into buckets of water. It's a very ancient way of firing and glazing pottery, and makes for some crazy colours and cracks.

Here are my spesh bowls! I used a red copper glaze on both, but you can see where it's oxodised and turned turquoise. (and yes, I know I need to eat up my tomatoes - they are over-ripe!)
