Part 1 - Athens

We flew in to Athens on Thursday night and headed to our hotel so we'd be ready to get up bring and early and see the sights. We headed off to the Acropolis first thing on Friday morning. And luckily we went in the morning too - because if we'd been up there at midday, I think we would have melted!

Alas, the Parthenon was being restored, which I think is pretty continual! So, we ignored the scaffolding and the hundreds of other tourists, and just appreciated the scenery and the history.

Some of the ruins up there are very spectacular indeed, especially this wee temple with its lovely ladies.

After the Acropolis, we wandered the streets in the market area, and stopped for a much needed pita break. I had been worried about finding vegetarian eats, but was delighted to make the acquaintance of this veggie pita, complete with french fries inside. Tres yummy!

For the rest of our day in Athens we wandered around and appreciated the lovely pedestrian areas. Let's see.... I also bought a hairbrush because I'd forgotten mine, as you can tell from the photos! We had a great dinner that night and then walked around the Acropolis as the sun was going down. It's beautifully lit up at night, and was very lovely indeed.
