The house we rented for our two nights in Santorini was probably the nicest place we've ever stayed anywhere - that means hundreds of hotels and b&b's in over 30 countries!
The house was self-catering, meaning it was just us. We had the keys, and a kitchen, and bedroom, and living room, dining room, huge bathroom, funny wee upstairs den, and of course the terrace overlooking the caldera, with our own private 'cold tub'. (Just like a hot tub, but with unheated water - much more refreshing when the temp is 30 degrees celcius!).
Like the rest of Oia, the streets are just footpaths, and so we had to park up the hill a bit, and then walk down a winding path to our house. It was built into the cliff, and so was nice and cool. There was a crazy skylight up a tunnel to the surface - there must have been about 20 feet of earth on top of the bedroom area, ensuring we were nice and cool at night!
Here are some pictures of how fantastic the place was:

And seriously, if you know anyone who is going to Greece, then you should recommend this place to them. It's owned by a doctor from Athens, who comes for 2 weeks a year. The rest of the time it's available to be rented out. We had the main floor - and there's also a loft and rooms on the lower level - I think it sleeps about 12 altogether. I'm already planning Higgyfest 2009 there!

The only hitch is, it's pretty darn expensive. We got it for A LOT less than the price listed on the website, but I think only because it was the off season, and we originally wanted the upper level, but got the lower level for the same price because they'd had a cancellation.
