Last night was probably the most eventful night we've had since we moved to Sopwell Lane.
Around 9:30 we heard a bunch of people yelling outside, so I stuck my head out the bedroom window and Rob, who was downstairs, opened the front door and looked outside.
There were about ten people just down the road and two of the guys where fighting, one with a hammer and one with a big wrench. They were hitting each other, and one of the guys had blood all on his head, neck, and back. One of them smashed the wing mirror off a car in front of our house, and put two holes in the back of an Audi TT with his hammer.
Rob yelled at them to be quiet, and said this was a residential area, and the guy with the wrench told him to "get back in your house or I'll f'ing' kill you." He came towards our door, and so Rob slammed the door, and dude leaned over our wall and smashed our planter. I was still upstairs looking out the window and yelled out to crazy dudes' friends 'what is this guy's problem he's just smashed our tiles' (because I thought he'd broken the tiles outside the front door.)
He then threw the wrench at my head, and missed only by a few feet. That's when Rob called the police, and we both stood in the doorway while we waited for them to show up. Luckily the police arrived about 60 seconds later, but the crazy guy tried to run away when he saw the flashing lights. My hero, my hubby, chased after the guy and held him down against a car until the police got him.
The guy was so drunk and insane that he tried to head-butt the police officer and in the end they had to put him in handcuffs and leg restraints.
So, after all that drama, Rob and I both had to go to the police station to give statements and didn't get back home until after midnight. What a night!
The guy they arrested will hopefully be charged with destruction of property for smashing the cars. They are also charging him with uttering death threats for what he said to Rob.
After all that, we found out that the guy might live at the end of our road, so we're hoping he was so drunk and drugged up last night that he doesn't remember anything today. We did end up meeting a lot of our neighbours because we were all standing outside together talking to the police. A lot of them had seen everything happen too, so they had to give statements as well.
We're supposed to be leaving for York today to have a fun day at salvage yards, but Rob's still asleep upstairs, so not sure what time we'll actually leave.
In the light of day, our street looks so nice and peaceful! Unfortunately because there are 3 pubs on Sopwell Lane, we do get a lot of drunk fools. Hopefully this kind of situation won't happen again though. Or it's even one more reason to move back to lovely quiet Port Hope.

Darn Canadians... ruining all the Yob's fun. What else do they have to live for, but hitting one another with hammers? Poor planter, but it didn't appear to have any of the precious geraniums in it. Glad you didn't take a wrench to the newly straightened septum!
